Housing & Sustainable Communities Panel
The Housing and Sustainable Communities Panel is a forum for the discussion of housing issues in the region, including affordable housing, the Sustainable Communities Agenda and, specifically, the Regional Housing Strategy
Following the Barker Review into Housing and Supply the Government has urged Regional Assemblies to carry forward both regional planning and housing functions to encourage better alignment between the disciplines. In March 2006 the Government accepted EERA's proposals to become a Regional Housing Board and this has subsequently been incorporated into the workings of the Housing & Sustainable Communities Panel. These additional responsibilities include :
- Advising and making recommendations to the DCLG on housing investment issues in the region.
- Using public funding strategically to deliver key investment priorities in line with the Regional Housing Strategy.
- Monitoring housing expenditure and delivery in the region.
- Promote closer working between the Regional Housing Strategy and the Regional Spatial Strategy.
