Climate change
EERA is involved in the regional Climate Change Partnership, and alongside EEDA, GO-East and the Environment Agency, provides funding and management support for the regional Climate Change Coordinators who are responsible for completing and coordinating delivery of the Regional Climate Change Action Plan.
Climate Change Action Plan
At the beginning of 2007, EERA committed to producing a Climate Change Action Plan for the East of England, working alongside EEDA, GO-East, the Environment Agency and the regional Climate Change Partnership. The aims of the Climate Change Action Plan are to:
- Ensure that there is an appropriate and coordinated programme of evidence gathering and analysis to inform regional strategy, and to inform future regional targets for greenhouse gas emissions reduction and adaptation to climate change.
- Ensure a coordinated approach to action for Climate Change mitigation and adaptation by regional partners, bringing together the current disparate strands of activity and identifying new action where there are gaps
Building a Greener Future
In December 2006, the Government announced a package of policy measures setting out a timetable for moving towards a vision of zero carbon housing development, and a framework for helping to realise that vision. This included the publication of a new draft Planning Policy Statement on Planning and Climate Change, with significant implications for Regional Planning Bodies like EERA in contributing to the reduction and monitoring of carbon emissions.
